I too was there in the black days of the mod scene when the NF were infiltrating the rally's trying to recruit. For me it came to a head in 84 at Morecambe...enough was enough. Ive also started many an argument/discussion about the mixed bag of allsorts the scene is now attracting. There are many ways of looking at this, and u should reconcile yourself if you are being true to your mod beliefs. Partial blame for the dress up mod invasion that we see now is the Promoters of club nights and by that i mean them all!! They have widened the scope of Mod to encompass other genres inc Northern Soul, which if you were there then you know its got nothing to do with mod!! Why?.....bigger headcount, we now have a deluge of nights of watered down mod!! For all i have stuck true to the mod scene and been successfull beyond belief in my working life through the same full commited determination thats been with me for always, i still have no right to tell anyone there scooter is not a Mod scooter, or there clothes are a bit naff, gotta hope that the more they get involved with the proper scene then there attitude will change and they will progress from there. In a few years time the dress up scooterboy/mods of the moment will have a new hobby! History will always repeat itself, till then walk your own path and wait and see!!

Re response to my comment by The Lone Wolf.

My remarks were not intended to cause anybody any offence and were observational on recent times and not the hooligan antics of over 30 years ago. I am a Mod and as such open minded and accepting of all others. I do not approve of the actions described by The Lone Wolf as having taken place in 1982 and hold no such prejudices but speak only from my own experiences in very recent times. I have never and never would question a persons moral standards who I know nothing of The Lone Wolf's comments were a slight on me when I only offered an opinion.

A genuine question. Is Northern Soul classed as being mod? It certainly adopts some old mod tunes but …..

Re: Malcolm Donalds comment. I don't think cool is a word I would use for the behaviour of old brit scooter boys. Motorcycle gang mentality was what ruined the 'scooter scene' in 1982 (I was at IOW) and I guess I only rate a decent scooter on par with a good suit. If you want to coexist with a many who feel fit to bare there arses in front of families on holidays, drink and then ride endangering others, dress like clowns and have no respect for the local scooter club scene then so be it. Give me a bunch of like minded mates who enjoy a mixed bag of music (not 'northern' soul all night), are not racist, bigoted and respect others around them. PS. I have never put a P Range Vespa into the category of mod. I guess this forum is not for me.

Was in Perth Aus Dec 2012 and have a P Range Vespa club of Melbourne patch. Think it's very cool that any version of a movement started in London 50 years ago is still being adopted as "cool" in any part of another continent. Most clubs I've seen in last year or so seem to have a greater number of scooterboy members than Mod but seem to coexist quite well.

Seen then mate when i was over last month!! Defo more casual scooterboy than Mod!!

I think you will find most of the numptys emigrated to Perth, Western Australia. They are more brit than brit, wear snide parkas in the sun and heat with a passion for racing P Range Vespas up and down the freeways.
