Touring from UK through France to Italy this year on unrestored Vespa GS150 VS5

Brighton mod weekender is the first test albeit a short trip from Dorset.

From Cherbourg we (yes two up) are buzzing past Normandy D Day landing beaches and hope to stay somewhere near Falaise/Flers/Sourdeval/Vire for our first night. From there it is a matter of avoiding main roads and big towns to travel through Chablis and up to Alps.

Can anyone with experience suggest the best way into Italy with regard to safety, scenery and less intensive hills!!!!. Oh and maybe good recommendations for gives/B&B etc.
