bio
After an 8 year void The Telescopes returned with a new album - Third Wave - in 2002 on NYC label Double Agent.

The group then toured the UK and Italy improvising free drone noise pieces. A first glimpse could be heard on the Winter EP recorded for Hungry Audio. All Copies have now sold out.

At the Audioscope festival in 2004 The Telescopes finished their set by drilling through gtr pickups. The Fourier Transform label released a recording of the event as a ltd edition, hand numbered, blue vinyl split 10" single twinned with Vibracathedral Orchestra’s magical performance at the same festival. All the proceeds from the release went to Shelter.

Re-issues followed, on great labels like Revola, Spaceage, Midsummer Madness and The Committee To Keep Music Evil making some of their early recordings available to a new generation of ears, and prompting even the NME to acknowledge ’the genius of The Telescopes’.

In 2005, The Telescopes 4th album was released on their own Antenna label, the group then embarked on a UK tour with support from Experimental Audio Research. Despite incarceration, deportation and a motorway spin out, they made it back to the studio and began mixing up the druidry once again.

The results were a mesmerizing live acoustic session on Double Agent entitled ’Auditory Illusions’, featuring an entrancing video by Dan Hopkins and new, exclusive versions of material past and present. The release was Ltd to 500 copies and is only available online and from Telescopes shows.

After a second tour of italy and a handful of UK appearances came The Telescopes Hungry Audio Tapes, a fabulous mini album for Hungry Audio and the alluring Night Terrors EP, The first in a series of 2 ltd edition 7"s on the Trensmat label.

In 2006 The Telescopes became a collaboration between Bridget Hayden and founder member Stephen Lawrie. A great artist in her own right, Bridget was a co conspirator of Vibracathedral Orchestra and can occasionally be found playing with Sunburned Hand Of The Man.

As a volcanic two piece The Telescopes spent 2006 spreading free noise around England, Scotland, Ireland, The Canary Islands, West Coast of America (with Füxa), Italy and Austria, recording all the time- mostly as a two piece, but sometimes more. Their first release together for the Trensmat label sold out in an hour. Copies of the release are exchanging hands for over 25 pounds. Another Trensmat release is due before the end of the year. The Telescopes 6th album will follow soon after. And a live document of the groups first ever USA tour is also planned for release in the new year.
