Crossfire 12 : Special Soul Spectacular!

Now in our sixth year the super successful London club night is back even bigger and better with an ALLNIGHTER and for the first time ever live artists in the main room and with deejays over three rooms. London's underground 60s music scene is booming and on Sunday 11 October 2008 we see the best of the Capital’s specialist 60s music clubs join forces for a massive party to celebrate both the diversity and the unity of the London 60s club scene. Get prepared for an amazing night of pure vintage retro partying of epic proportions.
To launch the new concept we gone completely overboard and booked three quality live artists. Direct from NYC, Northern Soul and Wigan Casino legend Dean Parrish, with full live band singing "I'm On My Way", "Determination", "Bricks, Broken Bottles And Sticks", ''Skate'', ''Tell her'' and more.
First up on stage Karime Kendra & The Killer Meters. The star of this years Cleethorpes' Northern Soul Weekender, performing the songs of her mother, Ty Karim and her father, the legendary LA producer Kent Harris. Expect "Lighten Up Baby", "You Really Made It Good To Me Baby", "Wear Your Natural" & many many, more.
And in the Garage/Beat/Rock n Roll room one of the stars from this years huge Easter event ''Le Beat Bespoke 4'' the incredible Staggers. These five boys and girl from Austria sure now how to start a party as anyone who has been to one of their shows will attest, The Staggers don‘t do polite retro-by-numbers. Their raucous gigs usually culminate in frontman Wild Evel (in varying states of undress) drinking beer from his winklepicker boot, and by the end of the night nobody gives a toss if they‘ve just seen the future, the past or indeed the undead face of rock‘n‘roll.
The event takes place at the Venue, 229 Great Portland Street will comprise three rooms, playing Northern Soul, Freakbeat/Garage/Psych and Rhythm & Blues/Ska respectively. DJs from about a dozen London clubs playing to a large crowd of music fans who have gathered from all over the UK and Europe to this fab central London venue.
On only twice a year this is one of the most anticipated dates in the calendar.
The Northern Soul room will feature DJs from the legendary 100 Club allnighters, which has just celebrated an amazing 29 years. 100 Club promoter and Kent Records supremo Ady Croasdell reflects: "It was pretty tough to get a 60s Soul scene going in London in the early days, but the Soul fans have supported us all the way". Joining Ady on the decks are Londoners Roger Stewart (Bisley), Warren Booagloo of Boogaloo soul nights in Greenwich, James Trouble (Soul Revolution) and Gene Robertson (SHS). Bring your dancing shoes folks!
The Beat room is hosted by the extraordinarily successful Mousetrap all-nighters (now in their 17th year). Speed of (Circle Records) and Dr Robert of (Le Beat Bespoke) are joined on the decks by UK special guests Spider Webb from exciting young London band the Horrors. Ben Ollins (The Cellar), Cosmic Keith (Boston Arms) and International man of mystery Carlo Sesto (Italy) all spinning their favourite Beat, Garage and Psych 45’s. All set to a backdrop of psychedelic lights and gorgeous go go girls.
If you’re planning to try the R&B room (which I’m consistently told is the best room in the building). Resident DJ and co promoter Rob Bailey from London hotspot the Mousetrap will be joined by fellow resident DJ Chris Dale and the Hard as Nails club DJ team Alan, Marcus and Andy Brazil. Our special guests include
El Nino from London's infamous (Lady Luck) club spinning the hottest 50's blues boppers and sleazy R&B dancers. Expect Killer R&B/Club Soul & Ska/Reggae from Camden Stylist Alan Handscombe and scorching Ska/Reggae/Rocksteady from Jim Cox (Reggae Train).
"All the clubs involved are at the leading edge of what they do" says Crossfire co-organiser Ady Croasdell "and people come from all over the country to come to their gigs. It’s a great chance for anyone who is interested in this type of music to come and check out all the clubs under one roof and see what they have to offer"
If you are from out of town and need somewhere to get your head down before the trains start running some cheap overnight accommodation is available above the venue, which can be booked in advance call ISH:
