Event Description

January 11th 1963 The Fox and Goose played host to The Detours, later to become The Who.

I saw The Detours once with Cam in 1963, at The Fox and Goose Ealing, a large pub within walking distance of the school. Pete didn't play an electric guitar that night, just an acoustic with a pickup under the strings, plus a banjo. The Detours had a singer, a bass player who'd play a little trumpet sometimes, and a drummer who looked liked someone's dad or older brother and didn't seem to be having much fun. Pete's friend Roger Daltrey played harmonica and maracas and sang a bit. Pete didn't sing but he'd yell and tell jokes. They did "I walk the line" the Johnny Cash song; an Elvis tune; some Carl Perkins; and highlighted the gig with a Chet Atkins guitar solo.

In line with The Who's 50th anniversary, the pub will be having a Mod Night to celebrate with live band Serious Chord Squad plus DJ set.
