da, you are correct. The mini's can certainly cost a bit to operate and restore. There is a place near my home that has many. However, so many have rotten subframes and are in need of welding repairs. I would love one but I think the 1970's and 80's (Leyland) versions are easier to find parts for.
Indeed they are quite difficult to get. I have an associate from the southeastern usa who works on the autos. However, prices for Mini's over here are mad. A average 70's Leyland Mini will run you between $8,000 to $30,000 usd even in not so good condition. Even Clubman's rack in the high dosh marks here. Many are NZ cars shipped over in parts.
