I'm from Sweden and quite new to the scene (a year and a bit), but it just felt right. Living in a small town and not dressing and dancing like everyone else is great, but a lot of people like to make comments about it. But I never really cared, I'm proud to say I'm a mod.
How I realised I was a mod?
First and foremost it was the music. I been listening to bands like "The Jam" and "The Who" here and there for quiet a long time without knowing about the scene, I just loved the music. One day I looked more into "mod music" and found bands like "Small Faces" and "The Kinks" and my love for the music grew.
And than the clothing played a big part. As a youth in a working class area you do everything to fit in, and in my part of the city people were listening to rap and dressed in streetwear, so of course I had to adapt to that even though I hated it. I liked my clothing fitted perfectly, all I wanted to wear was shirt's and polo shirts. But as the years past I realised fitting in isn't important, and started going my own way. It was around the same time I found out about Kinks and Faces, so the scene was right there and I slowly walked towards it. So I started buying smart clothes and went to a barber to get my hair cut right.
And lastly the people. I never met so many great and welcoming people. I have had conversations with people I never met before because of my hair and my clothes. I'm not longer insecure and afraid of speaking to people I don't know, I embrace it.
