It is good to see you have an interest in the same subject although I prefer my pin up to be 50s inspired Bettie Page style. Probably a little more saucy and knowing than your innocent girls. Your promo material is absolutely fantastic and captures the feel of the period perfectly. You certainly have an in depth knowledge of the design/font/imagery.
Well you certainly have an eye for detail! It is so easy to stray into cliche with the period but you have the knack of avoiding that. I imagine you enjoyed the Beatles to Bowie exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery? The use of period magazines and pop publications really added depth to the experience. Where did you find the models used in your posters? I have had no luck finding 60s style models, plenty of 50s rockabilly girls out there but zero modettes.
There you have an advantage. My partner isnt into either the 50s or 60s and would require a drastic make over to even approach the couture look I am after which is more Jean Shrimpton/Barbara Goalen. I guess I must make an effort to switch 'scenes'. I am looking forward to reading more of your 'History of Comics' blog. I collected Batman comics for over 20 years until burglars trashed my place along, I didnt find the 'Silver Age' very appealing as he was more of a boy scout character during the Adam West years. My influences from that period are more tv inspired ie Gerry Anderson shows, Irwin Allen and ITC. I wonder how you would tackle something that used such imagery?
Not forgetting Lt. Gay Ellis with her silver go-go uniform! A movie version of the series is currently in pre-production. Let's hope it doesnt bomb like the recent Thunderbirds film?
